Powder Coating Quality Control – Mil Thickness Measurement Test

This is the sixth video in a series on Powder Coating Quality Control Testing by S&B Finishing.

Mil Thickness Measurement Test ASTM D7091-13

One of the Powder Coat Quality Control tests performed at S&B Finishing is the MIL Thickness Measurement Test ASTM D7091-13.

This test measures the thickness of the coating on the part. We use a Mil thickness gage. The standard range is 2 Mil to 4 Mil. One Mil is one-thousandth of an inch.

Some customers parts go outside the range per their request, but generally all coatings stay within the range.
